Manna House activities began informally – handing out bags of food to the poor and needy in the community. Since those early days, the organization expanded to provide a full range of services that advocate for the poor and homeless in the area. And it feels great to know your efforts are backed by a community of other supporters!

We are volunteers serving our community to meet the needs of those experiencing difficult situations. Manna House updates its financial information with GuideStar, the world’s largest source of information about nonprofit organizations. GuideStar encourages nonprofit transparency and serves to verify that a recipient organization is established and that donated funds go where donors intend. This is only possible because of volunteers. Last year our fantastic volunteers contributed more than 9,874 hours of their time to Manna House.

These groups go out of their way to support Manna by volunteering their time, hosting food and clothing drives, and donating money to support our mission. Many in our community need a helping hand from time to time. Manna House exists to support those in need.

Sign up to volunteer today by completing a volunteer form located below. However, anyone who comes to Manna House is welcome to eat. An average of 230 people — men, women, and children — are fed each day. Merguez, a spicy North African sausage made with beef and lamb is also offered here. Also on the menu are a wide variety of kebabs, gyro and chicken shawarma sandwiches, salads including fatoush with fried pita chips, hummus, falafel and more.

At Manna House, we’re working to ensure that every member of our community has dependable access to food, utilities, and other basic needs. In order to have a thriving community, it will take all of us working together to support our neighbors. In May 2022, Benno Herz succeeded Dr. Nikolai Blaumer as the new program director. Since 2012, that service has been continuous seven days a week, 365 days per year. During this time and after breakfast, we try to connect them to services they need, all with the goal of improving circumstances in a significant way. Ask God for blessings on the volunteers, the cooks, those who donate, but most of all, for those who come to eat at Manna House. The men, women, and children; the homeless and the working poor — pray that they may know God’s love for them through the efforts of this community. Unaffordable housing, domestic violence, mental illness, aging out of foster care, addiction and foreclosure are some of the difficult events that bring clients to Manna House. More than 68,000 meals served last year, hundreds of hygiene kits assembled, thousands of clothing items sorted and categorized, and clothing provided to 2000+ people. Churches are some of our most powerful partners. They serve as both a referral source for clients and also provide a wealth of volunteers and donation drives to support our ministry. Manna House is fortunate to have tremendous support from our corporate partners.
Desserts include baklava and chocolate mousse. Locally, our Arab restaurants serve foods that are (for the most part) traditional to the countries on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Renowned international intellectuals, scholars, and artists will broadcast talks from the Thomas Mann House, presenting their ideas for the revival of democracy. Fischer Verlag, launched the online reading initiative #MutuallyMann.
Manna House is a community volunteer effort that does not receive government funding of any kind. It exists because people from near and far contribute funds to keep the ministry operating. Individuals in the community give monetary donations. School children and civic organizations conduct canned food drives to supplement the pantry.

By working together as a team of local residents and organizations that care about Ellis County, we can make a big difference in the lives of those in need. For 50 years, Manna House has been serving the poor, down-on-their-luck and homeless nutritious breakfasts.
There is no way a staff of seven full-time employees can provide these services without help. In all the years since Manna House opened, it has been closed without serving meals on only four days — three days after a hurricane left it with no electricity and one day in early 2006, the day of Fr. Every community has people who are in need.
Our community is found in the groups that connect us. Our church family gathers together in ways similar to a natural family. Every Sunday morning, we gather in our church services to worship, learn from the word of God, pray, and encourage one another in our respective journeys. Many who cannot gather in person, find meaningful community online sharing life, and pursuing Jesus together. Manna House provides up to two years of transitional housing to individuals between years old who are experiencing homelessness. Shelter, hunger, poor physical and mental health, job loss and fears of being vulnerable to violence and arrest are among our clients’ concerns.
Small groups are an opportunity to pursue Jesus while loving one another and one of the best ways to get plugged into our community. No group is perfect but we know there’s a group that’s right for you, whether it tackles the topic of marriage, family, women, recovery, outreach and more.
